Twentieth Century

A Twentieth Century cocktail is an elegant, forgotten pre-Prohibition-era cocktail recipe that combines the bitterness of gin, sweetness of crèm de cacao, sourness of lemon, and refreshing essence of Lillet Blanc. This cocktail originate from the 1930s.

Ingredients

  • - 1.5 ounces of gin
  • - 0.75 ounces of Lillet Blanc
  • - 0.75 ounces of lemon juice
  • - 0.5 ounces of crème de cacao (white)
  • - Lemon twist for garnish

Preparation

  • 1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • 2. Add the gin, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, and crème de cacao.
  • 3. Shake well for about 20 seconds until chilled.
  • 4. Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • 5. Garnish with a lemon twist & serve.

Serving

  • This cocktail is best served in a chilled coupe or martini glass. It’s a perfect classy drink for dinner parties or a sophisticated happy hour.

  • - Use fresh lemon juice, and strain the juice to remove pulp and seeds.

History

The Twentieth Century Cocktail was invented by British bartender C.A. Tuck in the 1930s for the Century Club. The cocktail took its name from the 20th Century Limited train, known for its high levels of luxury, that ran between New York City and Chicago.
