Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur is a premium Italian liqueur distilled by the Barbero 1891 company. It embodies the rich traditions of the Piedmont region in Northern Italy, renowned for its luscious hazelnuts. The liqueur is recognized for its distinctive bottle shape resembling a friar, complete with a rope belt, paying tribute to its lore centered around a hermit friar named Fra. Angelico.
The production process involves toasting wild hazelnuts and then infusing them in alcohol and water. Additional flavor components such as vanilla and cocoa are added to the infusion, then merged with coffee, berry distillates, and other natural flavors to create its complex, nutty composition.
The resultant taste showcases a distinctive hazelnut flavor, with undercurrents of vanilla and dark chocolate. Frangelico is particularly versatile – it can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, added to coffee, or mixed into cocktails for an added depth and complexity. Its pleasant sweetness and delicate aroma make it a popular inclusion in desserts as well. At 20% ABV, it's considered a moderately strong drink.
